When I first starting farming I racked my brain over what crops to grow. The variety of seeds and starters that were available was so overwhelming. I was trying to decide between growing what me and my family like to eat over what would sell. I solved this problem by spending a small fortune and buying a little bit of everything that seemed fun and or profitable to grow.
Being that I was buying so much seed from all over a website called NATIVE SEED SEARCH came up. I took a look at there page and found out they are a non-for profit farm that specialize in producing and maintaining plant seeds of the people southwest region. Of course I ordered again a small fortune of all I could get my hands on..seed buying can be addictive and if you know you know.
One of those tiny bags of joy was SONORAN WHEAT. Prior to farming I was under the impression that wheat has to be farmed with large machinery and infrastructure. Some of the highlights of SONORAN WHEAT is its adapted ability to grow in arid environments and its ease to harvest. I believe the pack we originally got was 3oz of seed. First year planted we got 2 five-gallon buckets of seed...this year we have enough to make our breads for the year for our family and surplus to sell as seed and flour.
From its ease to grow and my enjoyment of fresh baked goods at every meal. SONORAN WHEAT is a crop Ive come to love growing. It feed the body and there is something about standing in a wheat field as the wind blows...is a sound and feeling that feeds the soul.
